Look for the neon burger hiding against a wall in the lobby of midtown’s elegant Parker Meridien hotel, then duck behind the curtains to find this tiny, windowless, ramshackle room where the only food you can order are fast-food-style burgers, fries, and pickles on the side, all of which are paragons of the form. Though Burger Joint is now a mini-chain, this original location’s tucked-away location is what makes it so special, even if it stopped being an actual secret long ago.
