Profile

In 2003, Jerusalem-born Isaac Ben Avram opened the first Café Angelique, on Bleecker St., to bring European-style coffee to Manhattan. The limited seating at his original outpost makes it best-suited for take-out. For those seeking to linger awhile, sampling the croissants and pastries from Le Bergamote, or desserts imported from Israel like crumb cheesecake, Mozart Cake, and a whiskey-mousse confection, turn to the more spacious, sun-flooded West Village location. Both spots also serve an extensive menu of salads and sandwiches. Garden Staters needn’t bother crossing a bridge or trekking a tunnel; Avram has taken Angelique to Tenafly, New Jersey, too.
