On a quiet corner in Bushwick, Café Ghia is a dream realized by locals Scott McGibney (owner of Wyckoff Starr) and Anna D’Agrosa. This relaxed spot is named for McGibney's seventies-era Volkswagen Karmann Ghia. Full windows in front light the brick walls and dark wainscoting, and the laptop-friendly bar offers as many outlets as stools. The light kale salad is topped with a lemon-kimchi vinaigrette, and a number of simple sandwiches (grilled cheese, BLT, and other vegetarian and vegan options) accompany the entrée list, including a burger, grass-fed and infused with bacon fat for a strong smoke flavor, and mac and cheese, topped with disappointingly soft bread crumbs. The daily brunch menu is limited mostly to egg dishes; weekends, add biscuits and gravy, waffles, and a crispy millet cake topped with a fried egg. Feeling under the weather or hung over? Try the (non-alcoholic) Emergen-C cocktail.
