The bright, lively spinoff of Banania Cafe has the trappings of a bistro—the painted-tin ceiling, the rear-wall mirror, the water carafes, the magazine racks—and the soul of a diner, with a croissant-and-egg breakfast menu that kicks in at 8 a.m., and a something-for-everyone selection of offbeat salads, pressed sandwiches, pastas, and a hanger steak-frites. — Rob Patronite and Robin Raisfeld

Luluc serves my favorite salad - grilled shrimp with white beans, spinach and aoli. I crave it. It is the first place my husband wants to go for brunch. The food is solid. Not flashy, not spectacular, but reliably delicious, which is what you want in an ideal neighborhood place. This is where I can go on my one day off, chill out, have a good meal in a cute environment, get lost in the racks of free magazines, get some work done, or share a meal with a friend. BarTabac is noisy, Robin des Bois has uncomfortable seating, Patois is closed and was overpriced, but Luluc, ah, where would I be without you?
I visited this restaurant for a late night dinner after flying across the country. Three bites into my meal, I found a cigarette butt in my entree which the waiter verified as such. I refused a replacement entree. When I informed the restauranteur that I would be leaving, she tried to charge me and my date for our meals and would not let us leave without paying for at least our drinks.
Unless you're interested in an ashy dish and zero concern for the quality of the food or the well-being of the diner, AVOID!
