Profile

Taking its name from the Spanish word for “round,” Cafe Ronda offers figurative round-the-clock service—breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner—as well as cuisine from around the Latino and Mediterranean worlds. Softly lit burgundy and beige walls, exposed brick, high ceilings, fused glass hanging lamps, mosaic flooring and a dramatic drapery set a romantic backdrop for sensuous fare. Tapas range from Spanish-inspired shrimp sautéed in olive oil and garlic and Mexican-style grilled corn slathered in salty cotija cheese and dusted with red pepper to Argentine beef empanadas enlivened with green olive slices. Argentina also dominates the entrées, which are a variety of deftly grilled steaks served with a garlic-laden chimichurri sauce. Crispy Provençal fries with chopped raw garlic and parsley or Dominican tostones, fried plantains, are satisfying sides. Paella unites tender in-shell clams, mussels, and shrimp with chicken and mild Spanish chorizo on a bed of paprika and saffron-tinged rice. Substantial salads, like the Niçoise with grilled tuna, present lighter options, as do pressed Cuban sandwiches and burgers. Of course, sangria is the natural accompaniment, but you’ll also find clever cocktails like the Mataharitini, a pomegranate martini spiked with lime and vanilla. Breakfast and brunch menus offer baked eggs, omelets, buttermilk pancakes, and French toast.
