A wall of windows fronts the two separate rooms of this Clinton Hill spot for international home cooking. The first space holds a takeout counter with a chalkboard menu featuring coffee offerings and a limited list of beer and wine. The slightly larger dining area boasts yellow walls decorated with African art, three flat-screen TVs, and three large mirrors. Casual food includes the Café Shane, essentially a Greek salad in which romaine lettuce is topped with red onions, cucumbers, tomatoes, feta cheese and olive herb dressing, and comes with the option to add chicken or shrimp. Sandwiches, like the roast-pork-and-ham Cubano or the lean salmon burger, come with a salad and your choice of fries: heavily spiced Cajun, mildly sweet potato, or classic. Entrées offer a range of comfort food: The signature chicken-and-waffles comes with a meaty wing and thigh next to four thick-sliced waffles and sweet maple syrup; the grilled sirloin steak is covered in a tasty black-pepper sauce that you’ll want to soak up with bread, fries, or whatever you can get your hands on. Dessert crêpes arrive smothered in caramel, chocolate, or fruit coulis.
Recommended DishesChicken and waffles, $10.25 (dark meat) or $10.95 (white meat); home fries, $3.50
