Profile

This venue is closed.

At St. Petersburg, the tables are pre-set with small glasses awaiting vodka rather than wine, a clue that one, you're in for a real, Russian-style supper club experience; and two, you might be better off steering clear of the generic wine anyway. Known as a hot spot for young expatriates looking to shake off the dust of Odessa and first-generation Russian-Americans disinterested in Brighton Beach's older supper clubs, this long hall of a restaurant, extending from an elevated stage and postage stamp dance floor, moves with international partygoers on the weekends. The kitchen offers a similar balance of the traditional and global, turning out a beefy, intensely magenta borscht, a bracing rendition of the Russian fish soup ukha—a clear broth with chunks of salmon, carrot and potato—and garlicky lamb chops, grilled until charred then served with crunchy frites. The food remains secondary, though, to the late-night experience, buoyed by light jazz weeknights and Russian club-circuit entertainers on the weekends. This place boasts a reputation as a place to see, be seen, dance and table-hop. But arrive any night before 9pm, and you'll likely be the sole party.
