This Mexican joint a stone’s throw away from Pratt fills up nightly with the art school’s asymmetrical-haircut set. The prices are right for the demographic: A giant Castro special burrito runs a mere $9. It’s too bad the fillings disappoint, with overly generous helpings of Monterey Jack obscuring the flavors of the glut within: rice, beans, lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream, plus a protein of choice. Creamy guacamole may have needed salt, and fried pork chops achieved dryness and blandness, but there are some successes. Carnitas tacos are marvelously fatty, though they could use some spice or acid, and pipian con pollo (chicken in green pumpkin-seed sauce) is pleasantly spiced. The main dining room is cozy, with marigold-colored walls covered in Mexican art. In warmer weather, a back patio festively strung with colored lights is delightful.
