An unbalanced rush job of a restaurant. It's as if Jeffrey Chodorow’s life depended on purging the ghost of Rocco DiSpirito from the premises (Rocco's was at this address). But how can you steep anyone in the sultry, irresistible playfulness of Ipanema in a space that looks like the half-finished rec room of someone who fell in love with the décor of Gymboree? Not only is the world music lite more likely to fill an elevator than a sambadrome, the volume—I can't believe I'm saying this—is too low. The diffuse, gray lighting is seduction-free. But the most curious part of the enterprise is supervising chef Claude Troigros's baffling choice to fashion an intricate menu that's relentlessly sugarcoated.

Note: The house jalapeño caipirinha not only isn’t sweet, it has the best kick of any new cocktail in town.

I planned a birthday party for 12+ people at C&B on a busy Saturday night and received absolutely perfect service from a friendly and professional waitstaff. We were seated in a room just off the main dining area that was a bit more quiet, but still part of the general buzz. We ordered several tapas and brazilian flatbreads that were perfect for sharing. Entrees (esp skewers) were generous. A missed entree arrived late and was comp-ed. Everyone was really pleased with the food, mojitos and service which is never easy with a large group. The bill was surprisingly reasonable given all the food and drinks (~$55/person). I would definitely recommend C&B for large groups. I also would recommend it for dates and plan to return with my BF. The service and overall experience was really just exceptional.
