You’d expect a USTA steak house to nod to tennis at every turn. What you wouldn’t expect is for it to do so artfully. Two walls covered with black-and-white portraits feel more gallery than galleria; an arched ceiling akin to a tennis bubble in plaster is conceptual without being corny or contrived. None of it—from the commemorative nameplates to a tiny sports bar near the entrance—feels like overkill. All in all, as cacophonous banquet halls go, Champions is a pretty damned good one. Steaks are well-prepared; sauces, quietly assured. No one is likely to forget that he’s here to see Roger Federer or Serena Williams. But you, and your 200 fellow diners, just might be more focused on your plates than on that distant flat screen for the next half hour.
NoteOpen admittance for Courtside Box seat holders and Luxury Suite guests only. Loge Box and Subscription Series ticket holders may purchase restaurant passes by calling the ticket office at 718-760-6200.
