Good luck getting a seat at noon at this brightly lit east Chinatown canteen–midday, nearly every spot is taken. You might fare better at night when a regular clientele trickles through to hunch over generous and well-priced homestyle Chinese grub. The soy sauce duck is a signature item, served chopped and room temperature over a plate of rice, it's succulent and flavorful. Fish maw soup is a welcome mild foil to that dish and others such as the nicely charred scrambled egg with bitter melon on rice. An unexpected standout is the "casserole" of minced salted fish with chicken bean curd, silky tofu in a stew of sorts, with chunks of chicken and the pungent fish tying it all together. Roast pork soup, however, is skippable, with an odd, too sweet quality.
