At Chobani's SoHo counter, the company flips its fruit-on-the-bottom concept upside down. The ten-item menu offers both sweet and savory takes on the company’s 2 percent plain Greek yogurt. Served in a glass jar, the creations are covered with a flimsy mesh top (an homage to the yogurt's straining process) and arranged by a large-numbered staff in a style similar to a futuristic fast-food outpost. The toppings blend together well on each offering — Pistachio + Chocolate's hint of orange and mint, especially — but not always with the yogurt itself. The Fig + Walnut and Seasonal Fruit + Granola are the best options, and the Peanut Butter + Jelly stands out as a dessert-style convertor for yogurt-haters. Several prepackaged flavors are also for sale, as well as to-go toppings of olive oil, honey, and nuts. Naysayers may argue that it's just as easy to make the mixtures at home, but there's something charming about elevating a bodega-buy to a special treat.Recommended Dishes
