As mentioned, the replacement for Columbus Avenue fixture City Grill is the appropriately named Columbus Tavern. The space has a long mahogany bar, big windows looking out onto the avenue, and mirror-paneled walls reflecting clubby wooden booths. Chef Phil Conlon has worked at Café Cluny and Broadway East, and his menu of upscale comfort food misses nary a trend, from the brisket-and-bone-marrow burger to the duck-fat cashews to nachos made with house-fried potato chips.
