Profile

The restaurant scene in Park Slope has gravitated ineluctably to Fifth Avenue, where this rustic osteria has staked its own atmospheric claim. Communal farmhouse tables, candlelight, and rusted iron farm implements on the wall conspire to create an old-world ambience—that, and the Mediterranean menu, which changes often, and incorporates dishes from Italy, Spain, and Portugal. The whole grilled fish, the steak for two, the seafood couscous (offered seasonally), and the pastas are highly recommended, so make every effort not to OD on the tapas-like appetizers.

Special Holiday Menus

Prix-fixe dinner specials for Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve, Valentine's Day.

Recommended Dishes

Carcofi alla Romana (braised artichokes with mint and garlic), $12

I've never written a review before, but I went here last month and it was so good I had to say something. Pricey, but the food (especially the sea bass) was so tasty and memorable. Great romantic atmosphere. I was intimidated by the waiter at first, but he was very knowledgeable and professional. Heads up: They only take American Express (a huge pain if you didn't know ahead of time).

My girlfriend found GLASS in her dessert

On Valentine's Day my girlfriend found pieces of GLASS in her chocolate cake. Instead of immediately apologizing a manager accused us of planting the glass in front of the entire restaurant. Who runs their business this way?I have reported this problem to the Better Business Bureau and 311 and will explore legal actions. Do not go to this restaurant if you expect safe service. If tonight wasn't Valentines Day I would have called the police.
