Corona Avenue and Junction Boulevard are two of the most bountiful pathways of South American culture in Queens, and near their intersection is Costa Verde, a casual restaurant catering to the tastes of Peruvian immigrants. Flying from the kitchen most often are the complexly seasoned rotisserie chicken and the chaufa, or Peruvian fried rice. Aspiring seafarers will do best to order ceviche with octopus, squid, shrimp, and a chunk of fried sweet potato, called jalea. Anticuchos, strips of veal heart, are surprisingly meaty for a young cow's corazón and a bold choice for a first date. Along with the creamy chicken stew of aji de gallina or spaghetti's Latin cousin, tallarín, these Peruvian standards can't miss. Drinks are mostly limited to cans of soda, but to complete your Peruvian experience, ask for the purple corn drink called chicha morada. Its cinnamon and clove spices are reminiscent of Christmas, which adds a festive note to your meal.
