Why go to Currysource, with its money- and space-saving business plan of offering chilled Indian entrees to heat at home, when there are plenty of similarly priced subcontinental cookeries offering hot, sit-down meals right around the corner? Hard to say. Yet this tiny, often empty storefront, with no in-house eating or heating, appeals to fans of the Anglo-Indian style of cuisine cooked up across the pond. An average of four main dishes are available each day, and everything comes à la carte. The chicken tikka masala is caked with a dry marinade of yogurt and spices, which allows the flavor of the meat and curry to come through, rather than drowning it in a creamy sauce. An entree of curried root vegetables has a mushy texture, but wee potato and pea samosas are light and delicate, surpassing the ultra-fried, fist-sized dumplings served at other curry-in-a-hurry joints. In addition to its prepared dishes, the shop also stocks imported English items, like treacle and Heinz baked beans.

As a special service, they’ll order British foodstuffs by request.
