If you ever wondered what Coyote Ugly would be like with Mexican food and unusual, high-end tequilas, look no further than Diablo Royale. In a design that evokes the imagined interior of a Goth barn, rough-hewn wood lines the floors and walls, with antler-festooned chandeliers painted high-gloss red and epigrams like “Hell is empty. All the Devils are here.” emblazoned on the walls. The banker boys and PR girls are decidedly not here for the food; instead, the restaurant’s more like the first stop on a very long, wishfully wild night. Still, the fun, fresh Mexican and Tex-Mex fare is fine, with a couple of particularly impressive taco choices, the chorizo and roasted pork and pineapple al pastor. Understandably popular enchiladas pair different sauces and meat fillings, for a toothsome balance of stuffing, sauce, and cheese. Beware the pricey, tiny portions of guacamole, however, and note that you’ll have to pay for seconds (or thirds) of chips and salsa.
Recommended DishesChicken enchiladas, $17; al pastor, pescado and camerones tacos, $16 for 2, $20 for 3
