Profile

This venue is closed.

Diwan (meaning “honor” in Hindi) lacks for ambience, but the dull setting doesn't detract from the great tandoori specialties. If you're lucky, you might get to taste the lemony, charcoal-crisped squares of tandoori halibut, or a tiny, melting portion of quail, served on a banana leaf and smothered in a pale orange-colored sauce flavored with saffron and coriander.

Recommended Dishes

Quail, $7.95; butter chicken, $18.95; tandoori halibut, $23.95; cheese dumplings, $14.95

Dull decor, businessman all over the place, impersonal service, but oh, the food! OUt of the blue I found...after years of looking...all the standard Indian fare prepared with life and gusto. Breads, rice, dal, vegetables...everything tasted two nothces better than anywhere else. The tandoori shrimp salad is a dead ringer for a dish at Jean Georges but with a snap of spice and at half the price. Sutffed parathas are pilowy soft...amazing. The more you like Indian food without gewgaws, the more you will like Diwan, despite the motel dining room decor.

Noisy, cold food, very slow service

The restaurant has two bars with many noisy smoking young men. Food is served cold and verrry slowly. It is the worst Indian restaurant we have been to among the many we have visited in three continents over the years. Remove it from your list of recommended restaurants immediately; you are doing disservice to your readers. I won't take you seriously anymore.
