Profile

With flavors like root beer, s’mores, and carrot cake, Dun-Well has mastered the art of the inventive doughnut. It’s a surprise bonus for the health-conscious that everything here is vegan-friendly, too. Rather than the traditionally doughy, juicy round that squishes to almost nothing when you bite into it, vegan dough tends to be spongy (because there’s no milk, eggs or butter), and not nearly as fatty or sweet. It almost feels like you’re eating a healthy doughnut, which is not necessarily true, but still nice. Both yeast and cake options are available, but Dun-Well’s real merit is in their variety of frostings; not all 200-plus flavors are available every day, but the rotating cast includes a stellar Boston cream and pumpkin pie. Instead of the traditional glaze, go for the crème brûlée or the Butterfinger (but skip the peanut butter and jelly). There are a few flavors of vegan ice cream, too, which you can either ask for on a cone, or even better, have served atop your favorite fried dougnut.
