Profile

This venue is closed.

Earth Tonez hews to the terms “organic” and “green” with a dedication that’s exceptional even in fussy Park Slope. An ingredient display near the cash register offers an eyeful of the vegan sandwich shop’s commitment to the conscious eater. Every condiment, from the mayo (soy-based Nayonnaise) to the ketchup (Annie’s Organic), can claim natural origins and health-friendly contents. The sodas available (Switch) combine 100% fruit juice with carbonated water, and takeout containers made from potato and cane sugar are biodegradable. Despite the well-curated elements, some of the menu disappoints like a veggie BLT felled by a stale white bun, and frozen veggie chicken nuggets zapped straight from the Gardenburger-brand box. Other handheld goods excel—the Bacon King Burger is a towering, grease-free concoction of soy burger patty, crunchy vegan bacon, melty vegan mozzarella, and sweet organic barbeque sauce. A PB&J riff elevates the original with thick spreads of organic almond butter and fresh black cherry jam, grilled and pressed between fat slices of wheat bread. Rich red velvet cake and hefty strawberry cheesecake slices are also vegan, but satisfy as much as any guilty pleasure.

Outdoor Dining

In mild weather, head to the back door to sit in Earth Tonez’s shaded, quiet backyard, overlooked by trees, brick walls, and neighbors’ laundry lines.
