People looking for a royal treat can play emperor at this flamboyant Cantonese seafood specialist with its gold-draped tables, red walls and display case of shark fins. Waiters pluck live lobsters and crabs from the fish tanks for your approval before the entrée is sent to the kitchen. What else to expect from a restaurant that beckons passersby with starburst lights more appropriate to a Vegas cabaret? East Lake serves many of the standards found at other Main Street restaurants, but the results here show care in execution. Juicy shrimp, lightly glossed with hot mayonnaise sauce and studded with toasty glazed walnuts challenge preconceptions of a potentially off-putting culinary combo. Earthy shredded abalone with julienned snow peas, celery and carrots is bright with ginger and rich with XO sauce. The mostly local crowd is a mix of families and hot young things decked out in the latest street wear who also flock here for the popular dim sum.

Recommended Dishes
