Don’t be fooled by the “café” in the name—this neighborhood spot is an out-and-out diner. The menu’s seemingly inexhaustible selection starts with a full range of egg dishes before moving onto 8-ounce burgers, oversized salads, and hot and cold sandwiches. Daily specials cover Italian favorites like parmigianos and lasagna, or old school staples like liver and onions. Greek dishes are a strong suit; Kebobs, souvlakis, and gyros, available with a fluffy rice pilaf, round out the Greek offerings. Interior adornments are limited to five small prints depicting classical icons like the Parthenon, the Trojan Horse, and “The Creation of Adam.” A neon sign in the window boasts “World’s Best Coffee,” although the actual joe tends to be closer to diner standard than anything globally anointed.
