Profile

El Toro Taqueria is a bare-bones taco joint just off bustling Manhattan Avenue on the McCarren Park side of Greenpoint. With little more than a few sets of antlers stuck above some wood paneling and a handful of tables and chairs, they serve primarily as a takeout and delivery spot, though their BYOB status makes dining in more attractive. The counter surrounds the tiny open kitchen, sporting merely a grill and prep station where the sole cook assembles tasty tacos, melty enchiladas, wraplike burritos, cheesy quesadillas, and massive tortas, all with filling selections ranging from papas and pescado to carnitas and carne asada. For a taste of Korean fusion, try their signature coreano taco with steak and kimchi. The large torta sandwiches cram your choice of meat or veggies with lettuce, pico de gallo, guacamole, salsa, and a sprinkle of cotija cheese between two pieces of telera bread. The same sprinkle tops the elote (corn on the cob), stuck to its kernels by a spread of chili-chipotle mayo. A large selection of Jarritos fills the refrigerated counter in front.
