The ambiance and menu at this spacious Italian restaurant fall somewhere between an old-school red sauce joint and a corporate Midtown culinary enterprise. Opened by husband and wife team Roy and Mallory Rutledge in 2007 in what used to be a divey sports bar called Snooky’s, the sparsely decorated and vaguely formal eatery misses the mark on the typical funky, family-friendly Brooklyn vibe. Warm, latte-colored walls, oversized art and light filling the front room feel inviting, but perfectly partitioned brown upholstery chairs recall Raymour & Flanigan. Menu-wise, Chef Camillo Bassani’s fettuccine ai quattro formaggi comes with copious cheese that makes homemade pasta way past tender. The paper-thin beef carpaccio appetizer with arugula and a lemon dressing lacks tart acidity. Only the fritto misto excels with sticks of fried zucchini, baby shrimps and calamari, soft inside with perfectly crispy exteriors. Regardless, in-house pasta dishes are ever popular with regulars as is the airy tiramisu.
