Profile

Three years after their snazzy remake of Leshko's, the owners have exported their Knoll executive chairs and retro-mod tendencies to Chelsea. An ever-changing series of paintings hang above the bar; among the first was "Us Together" a Ross Bleckner, his first commission in a decade.

To Be Seen, Not Savored

When you first walk by elmo, you might think the large RESTAURANT sign is a farce, given the presence of a dj, a usually sizeable (gay) crowd at the bar, and the bubbly, beautiful people laughing and imbibing pink drinks. You would be forgiven for such an oversight, as elmo is much more lounge like in both manner and flavor. The food is mediocre: my penne pasta on one occasion was not quite al dente, and my chicken tacos on another were overcooked. The food is an afterthought. Which is entirely the point. Servers are effervescent, if not gorgeous, and the crowd invites you to play the part of a Manhattan socialite, if only for a night. Just don't come hungry.

Not too bad

Pros: Good food, huge space, nice staff, decent prices. Cons: Noisy, noisy, noisy I would recommend this place.
