A Deco-ish backlit décor with a sensuously curving bar and a steel-faced fireplace gives this West Village hot spot an old-world speakeasy feel. Serious cocktails mixed from infusions like lavender scented gin and vermouth tinged with herbes de Provence are meant to complement dishes like oysters, a seafood salad, and a Serbian charcuterie plate. — Rob Patronite and Robin Raisfeld
Late Night Menu
An abbreviated menu is available nightly from midnight to 3:30 a.m. when the kitchen closes.
The bartenders have been stellar for the past 2 years or so that I've been a regular there and loved it, but I learned very quickly that if their drugs arent treating them well at any given time, beware because it could be a sybil type of reaction especially if its busy and they get very defensive. This is the Empire State of Mind, dont bother testing the mood of your night.. There are several thousands of places in the city waiting to take your service. Disappointing. Shut them down unless Henry (one of the owners, decides to stop giving them all drugs when he should be managing). He used to manage it well.
Employees Only is definitely known for its award-winning cocktails and aperitifs, but it also serves up some delicious meals, like orecchiette (a sausage-filled pasta). It is reasonably priced and the decor evokes a feeling of 1920's prohibition-era, because I believe the place was originally a hidden speakeasy.
