Profile

This venue is closed.

Pinned on a block between two funeral parlors like a scene from a Godfather farce, this cavernous Gravesend institution still gets cramped with crowds seeking Italian classics. The interior plays up the old-school theme with oil paintings in ornate gold-sprayed frames, white tablecloths, and vases of fake flowers. The house specialty, a chicken-cutlet Fiorentino, is battered with just enough egg to soak up the rich, lemony sauce, and comes with a buttery potato croquette to do the same. Veal-scaloppine Sorrentina pushes the heaviness threshold with a layer of fried eggplant as padding between mozzarella and pounded meat. For a simpler standard, fettuccine di pomodoro comes piled high and thick with sauce. You don’t need multiple courses with the portions here, but stracciatelle soup with strands of egg in a light chicken broth makes a more memorable starter than a cold, lettuce-heavy antipasto de casa. For dessert, one order of not-too-sweet cannoli is enough to share.

Recommended Dishes

Stracciatelle, $4.50; chicken breast Fiorentino, $13.50; cannoli, $4.25
