Profile
An awfully cozy neighborhood spot with signature curried mussels and lusty specials like duck sausage with zesty potato salad. All that and a friendly welcome, a comfortable bar, and a big backyard garden.
I disliked this place so much (after reading the great review here), that I had to register to the site to voice my opinion. I've never disliked a place so much that I'd do something like that.
The place looks nice, but that's about the only good thing I have to say. First complaint was that they didn't have the beer I ordered. We both went simple. Burgers. Not only were our burgers cold, but so were the fries. And I'm not a big stickler for warm food. They were REALLY cold! So cold that the cheese had already solidified. Why would the burgers and fries be cold if a) we ordered the same thing, taking the same amount of time, and b) they came out fairly quickly.
We also sent back our side of mustard greens, because there were literally 4 stalks of mustard greens. Four stalks of mustard greens for 6 dollars?
My impression of this place was that DUMBO is not known as a culinary mecca, so people's expectations are low. That's the only excuse I can come up with for how this place is still open.
Last night we went to an art opening of mezzeart.com at Rebar in Dumbo and wanted to have dinner after in the neighborhood. Went to 5 Front and had an excellent meal in a sweet outdoor setting and had wonderful grilled calamari salad, entree of scallops also cooked perfectly, endive salad with pecans and grapes lightly dressed and just right, and the best crab cake I have ever had--better than my own, which hurts to say! Service was right on, even down to our server , without being asked, immediately moving a table of diners who started lighting up cigarettes (they moved to another outdoor area and no smoke drifted our way). We will be back! Indoor decor neat, and space intimate. I would come here over many lower Manhattan restaurants. Bravo to this group for doing so much that is right, but pls get more comfortable chairs. Now if they would just share their crab cake recipe...
