Profile

In a community split between entrenched Italian families and gentrifying youngsters, Fragole doesn't really suit either demo. It's a newcomer, but it's not nouveau. You won't find old cronies sipping their cappuccinos here, but neither will you see large groups of scenesters straying from Smith Street for the night. It's a middling sort of place, which usually equals death in a restaurant-saturated neighborhood like Carroll Gardens. But that's a too-harsh sentence for an eatery that obviously aims to please. Service is extra friendly and tasty pasta dishes like Spaghetti al Agnello (lamb ragu) and Fettuccine Rosmarino, with sweet sausage and hints of sage and rosemary hit the spot.

Fragole - I don't think so

The ambiance and decor were very pleasant. But that's where it ended. Our servers looked like we were inconveniencing them. Perhaps they forgot to DVR Gossip Girls and were dying to get back to Chuck Bass's twitching uni-brow and him shooting those "something stinks" looks at his female counterparts. The food was "eh" at best. The pasta was over-cooked and the flavors failed to impress. The wine we ordered was nice so it made it easier to wash the food down. To round out the less-than-stellar evening, we ordered desserts hoping for at least one saving grace. No dice. I had a dessert with ice cream I stopped eating after biting down on a large shard of plastic. I told our disinterested waitress and all she could muster was an unapologetic "oops." My verdict? I stare in absolute stupefaction when I see people waiting to be seated there. There are at least five superior restaurants within a five minute walk. I recommend you exercise your better judgment and legs and take the walk. Fragole is just not worth the time or money.

Excellent, simple, affordable

We love this restaurant. The pastas are excellent, the service is friendly, and the prices make dinner a steal for the neighborhood.
