Locals treat this corner Carroll Gardens pizzeria as a delivery and takeout joint, but it’s worth stopping in the attached checkered-floor trattoria for a proper meal. Ochre faux-finished walls are plastered with family photos, and French doors provide light as well as a street view. The menu spans hearty Italian-American classics; a simple pairing of crisp-edged slices of breaded eggplant with sweet sausage is as filling as it is tasty. Ziti Bolognese is rich and meaty, and the portion is so large it may feed a family of four. Veal Parmigiana is pounded thin, smothered in tangy marinara, and generously topped with melted mozzarella. Despite competition from more artisanal upstarts in the neighborhood, sometimes only a hero or rice ball will do. There’s nothing radical about Francesco and loyal patrons wouldn’t have it any other way.
Recommended DishesEggplant and sausage pizza, $23.50; veal Parmigiana, $14.50
