Gable's is everything a neighborhood Italian restaurant should be—unpretentious and reasonably priced, with a garlic-loving, pepe rosso-sprinkling chef in the kitchen and "Frank’s Place" on the XM radio. Clearly a crowd-pleaser, Gable's has specialized in Neapolitan-style seafood since 1937. Never mind the hanging halogen lights and rack of Cosmo glasses; you're in for an old-fashioned, gut-busting, palate-pleasing Italian feast. While meat and chicken are prepared with care, seafood dishes are outstanding. A simple appetizer of mussels in garlic-perfumed white wine broth is so good you'll want a spoon. Bouillabaisse, lobster risotto, and a bracingly red-sauced seafood fra diavolo with linguine burst with flavor and noticeably fresh seafood. A wide menu covers fried, grilled, and pan-seared fish plus a catch of the day.

Recommended Dishes

Pan-roasted mussels with garlic, $8; hazelnut-coated fried calamari, $8; seafood fra diavolo, $13; lobster risotto, $16
