Named for its ever-present owners, longtime friends Gia and Lety, Gialeti’s opened on Valentine’s Day 2009, following the gut renovation of its sleepy South Slope corner. From the comfortable cushioned seats to the caramel-colored walls, this neighborhood joint is cozy, unpretentious, and brews stellar coffee. Philadelphia roaster La Colombe supplies the beans for hot and iced coffee and espresso drinks paired with an assortment of housemade croissants, scones, and coffee cake. An expansive and bargain menu includes homey soups like lentil, and panini sandwiches with fresh mozzarella, basil, and tomato, or black forest ham, spinach, and brie. Pancakes, custom omelets and Nutella- or cheese-stuffed crepes and other breakfast foods are served all day. Part of the beauty of the place, which has indoor and outdoor seating, is that the comprehensive set-up draws all types—not just latte-seeking couples pushing Scandinavian-made strollers.
Recommended DishesFresh mozzarella with basil and tomato panini, $7.50; vegetarian lentil soup, $4.50; jumbo chocolate chip cookie, $1.50
