What began as a raucous eighties-style grand café has mellowed over two decades into a trusted American classic with Alfred Portale relentlessly pursuing perfection in the kitchen. My only question would be about the seating plans, is one expected to leave at a certain time? We lingered on with coffee and after dinner drinks beyond 9pm and the staff was clearly getting nervous. We got defensive but exited by 9.15, just feeling a little hurried. I would not even have noticed without the fact that the pre-ordering attention was so friendly, and then afterwards, a tad chilly...
