The team behind inland Williamsburg’s the Richardson has opened a new, more food-focused tavern by the East River. Grand Ferry's décor isn't so different from its sister restaurant: Dark wood and antique chandeliers give the bar and back dining area a warm feel, and century-old drawings of the area hang from the damask-papered walls. The menu matches the vibe, with hearty, updated classics like wild-mushroom shepherd’s pie and clam chowder in a tomato-fennel broth. A raw bar serves up rotating mollusks by the half-dozen, or if you prefer them cooked, try the deep-fried oysters or the cornmeal-crusted Ipswich clams on a roll with citrus fennel slaw. Nautically themed original cocktails accompany the classics, as well as European wines and port-town domestic beers including some exclusive Brooklyn Brewery experiments.
