Though it's got the generic, grid-like layout and false brick walls of any number of squeaky-clean suburban burger-and-fries joints, this welcome addition to a relatively pricey swath of Tribeca is a notch above. But despite the name, it's the selection of excellent sides that make Greenwich Steak & Burger Co. stand out most. The truffle Parmesan fries, served in a paper cone, are earthy and lightly dusted with cheese without being overpowering. And the lightly caramelized onion rings, perfectly fried to a crisp, are covered in rich batter shells that don’t shatter when you bite into them—a wonderful rarity. The burgers are hearty, though it’s wise to ask for them a tad rarer than you really want them (why the kitchen would serve Kobe beef medium is a mystery). Still, the clientele of quiet, mostly middle-aged couples and occasional young families seem to offer no complaints.
Recommended DishesTruffle Parmesan fries, $5; beer-battered onion rings, $6; NY classic cheeseburger stuffed with Vermont cheese and bacon, $10
