There’s no false advertising at Happy Fresh Tortilla Grill in Park Slope. It’s got a grill. The folks behind the counter prepare tortillas on it. Fresh ingredients are plentiful, and the low-priced, well-prepared menu of Mexican and Tex-Mex favorites will most definitely leave you happy, or at least full. No premium has been placed on creating atmosphere here, but, as a predominantly take-out and delivery spot, the restaurant can be forgiven for skimping on decor. (A few tables can seat folks who wish to dine in.) Since the hard-shelled tacos can be a bit cardboard-y, it’s best to focus on the dishes based around the fresh house-made flour tortillas. These soft tacos are light and flavorful, with fillings of all varieties, from the standard (grilled chicken and steak) to the unexpected (Tex-Mex Chili, bean curd). Diners will find the usual quesadillas, fajitas, burritos, and enchiladas—all made with those great tortillas—but there are salads, too, and combination plates consisting of grilled or fried meat, fish, or vegetarian assemblages, all served with rice and beans. Apparently wary of leaving a fast-food stone or two unturned, Happy Fresh also offers four styles of Mexican-style pizza and seven French-fry combos.
Recommended DishesTex Mex chili taco, $1.95; quesadilla gigantic, $3.69
