This New American kitchen just off the Metropolitan Avenue strip does indeed inhabit the former home of an auto garage. A wide roll-down door leads to an open space adorned with Mohawk-styled servers, graffiti screen prints, and a mural starring rusty images of the Twin Towers and, for some reason, Kate Moss. The venue’s menu is as casual as its atmosphere: The kitchen does good-enough American mainstays like a bowl of unadorned fingerling potatoes paired with bacon-tinged sour cream and a garlic-and-crumb-laden macaroni and cheese that comes off a bit dry. Other homestyle options include a creamy mushroom risotto, but Hope’s one true standout is a fleshy pork chop entrée that comes with spicy rosemary applesauce and a side of crusted polenta stick and bitter smoked greens.
