The room is big, dark, incredibly handsome, cavernous, more humming than boisterous, unfocused but friendly. Think of Hudson Cafeteria as a community center for the privileged. The stuff that makes the surprisingly diverse customers happiest is macaroni and cheese (without the foie gras). It's become very canny to claim discomfort with comfort food, but those eating it here want more and couldn't care less.
