Profile

Ikeno Hana bears the mark of an authentic Japanese restaurant: The sweet shrimp in the sushi special arrive raw—when they're in season. The fish pieces are ridiculously huge and redolent of the sea. Tasty shumai (steamed dumplings) come six to a container, and edamame are served hot and the right shade of bright green, though you have to ask for the salt with which to douse them.

The sushi bar is fun to sit at and they make delicious rolls. The entres are also superb, i highly recommend the chicken yakitori as an appetizer, best japanese sauce i've ever tasted. The garlic shrimp is also very good. If its a monday, wednesday or sunday, its always a great place to eat at or order in. Take a candy mint on the way out as well

Decent Sushi - Terribly Loud

The Sushi was decent. Didn't stand out as much as I thought it would based on the review - there are several places along 2nd & 3rd Ave. that are just as good, including Shiki Sushi & Sushi Hana. I thought the small size of the restaurant and decor would provide an intimate environment, but the end result was that it was just too damn loud. I felt like I was in a high school cafeteria. There is something desperately wrong with the acoustics when in a packed restaurant I can barely hear the person across from me. Instead I suffered through conversations of the somewhat stuffy crowd, befitting its location. I couldn't believe it and paid cash just so I could get out of there that much quicker. If you're a loud talker and in the neighborhood and dying for good sushi, go for it, otherwise, head over a couple avenues.
