Profile

There's a certain breed of dressy northern Italian restaurants around town that feature absurdly long lists of specials and fantastic bread. Here, that specials list includes seasonal gems like airy, crispy soft-shell crabs and incredible Dover sole almondine. On the apps front, the classic frittura di mare is so good, you don't feel guilty for eating all that fried stuff. The pasta dishes are authentically done, but the proprietors, mercifully, will bend the rules and allow you to put Parmesan on your black linguine with tangy tuna tomato sauce. Watch out, though: Il Postino is not light on the wallet--you may be tempted to drown your sorrows in the humongous wine list.

Worst and one of the most expensive meals I have eaten in 12 years in NYC

The owner of this establishment has been pulling the wool over people's eyes for years. We ventured into this establishment and were blown away by the poor service, the mediocrity of the food, and worst of all the bill of $800 for 4 people. At this restaurant you order off a board without pricing, the waiter misled us completely on price of the food and the wine (which appeared to be marked up 400% off retail). The bill also appeared padded, but being that that we were with friends from of town I did not wish to make a scene with the manager so I regretably just paid the tab. Frankly I think they completely ripped us off.
