Iro is a hyperefficient sushi factory that delivers exactly what it promises with no surprises, embellishments, or pretensions. Located in the Columbia Street waterfront district, it may be the only sushi establishment in the area with three curtained booths, each of them equipped with a (less-than-operational) TV screen. The venture was clearly designed to capture the takeout and delivery market, with modest pricing and an expansive delivery range. Iro doesn’t stray too far into the world of exotic ingredients and elaborate presentation; its menu contains the usual range of specialty rolls and standards. Highlights include the Princess roll, an unusually sweet combination of lobster, mango, avocado, and seaweed strips wrapped in bright-yellow soy paper, and an Illusion roll filled with crunch and topped with an unusual combination of shrimp and avocado. Starters like steamed dumplings with sweet plum sauce are just as good as the ones at higher-priced spots.Recommended Dishes
