Profile

Conceived as a local bar with a broad mix of food, Jarro is a welcoming neighborhood joint. The candle-lit dining room feels almost like a haphazard, or even accidental lounge, with plush clashing couches and mismatched plastic chairs—the kind you might remember from grade school. It’s charming, without any pomp. If you just want a drink, the long bar has all the typical stock, as well as nearly fifteen custom cocktails. The basil martini and mint-cucumber-lime gin is complemented by a list of affordable bar bites like crispy pork belly or truffle salami. If you stay for dinner, the locally sourced menu is small but broad, with everything from pasta to soup, steak, and salad. The latter make for a good appetizer, especially the frisee and arugula option, which comes with sweet cuts of duck and sliced dates. For the main course, choose from either the sea or the farm. The hanger steak with Brussels sprouts and fingerling potatoes is on point, while the striped bass comes with a chorus of tender oysters on a bed of bacon and Swiss chard. For dessert, go for the fluffy beignets—powdered sugar is a good ending for any meal you choose.
