Despite this unassuming sushi shop’s standard-issue blond wood tables and strands of forgotten Christmas holly, the quality of the fish is better than one might think. Purists will appreciate the expert cuts and the righteously vinegared rice on everything from Spanish mackerel to squid, while those less utilitarian may take to some of the hokey-named combos, like the Valentine roll, which wraps tuna, salmon, avocado, spicy mayo, and tobiko in pink seaweed. Vegetable gyoza, if steamed, are delicate enough. But some non-sushi items aren’t up to snuff, especially the cloying, too-sweet teriyaki slathered on overcooked vegetables.
Lunch specialBetween 11 a.m.—4 p.m., the various sushi and sashimi lunch boxes range from $8-$13, including miso soup or salad, while bento boxes include entrees, California roll, rice, miso soup and salad and fried sushi for $8.25.
Recommended DishesSushi, $2-$4 per piece; vegetable gyoza, $4.50
