For Lower East Siders who don't feel like trekking to 6th Street, this super-simple quick stop dishes out familiar Northern Indian food, from tandoori to korma to vindaloo. The patrons, made up of Essex Street Market workers, young, arty locals, and the occasional cabbie, don't tend to linger in the tiny maroon-tiled storefront—with only five tables and three counter stools, there's not much room anyhow. They know to skip the soggy samosas and pakoras, fried hours ago and sadly waiting to be warmed-over, a shame considering the quality of the accompanying coriander sauce. Almost everything else from the steam-table service holds up better. Chana saag, buttery chickpeas cooked in spinach, tastes fresh; the silken sauce smothering the chicken tikka masala is thoughtfully spiced. With few other convenient options in the neighborhood, this Curry Row clone does the trick.
