The lowdown

If you want a taste of Mediterranean-style bistro cooking filtered through the elegant largesse of the London restaurant scene, you could do worse than the fine neighborhood establishment King. Annie Shi manages the front of the house while two veterans of the famous River Café, Clare de Boer and Jess Shadbolt, produce a daily-changing menu that might include helpings of roast guinea hen flavored with lemon and ricotta; a faithful version of Provençal fish stew made with Long Island clams, tender fluke, and steamed lobster; and simple hanger steak grilled with rosemary.
