Out like a light: In one fell swoop, owner Charlie Palmer has dispensed with Alva's Edison-inspired lightbulb theme and reconceived his Flatiron-district property with walnut beams, vanilla walls, and sea-green-and-blue-hued fabrics and banquettes. The menu, too, has been overhauled, edited down to a choice of five appetizers, five entrées, and five desserts, available only as a $29 three-course prix fixe.

Prix-Fixe Menu

Three-course dinner, $29.

The waiter was attentive but was really a kid and not very sophisticated. Food is decent and a good value but really nothing special. Dessert was probably the best course. It's a nice space. There's something that feels a bit assembly line about the experience, like the kitchen just cranks out the same kind of thing all the time. Not a lot of creativity.

Aureole is fantastic but not for everyday dining. Kitchen 22 is a gift to every New Yorker who enjoys fine food dining but can't shell our $100 every night. You will not be disappointed with Kitchen 22. By far the best deal in town.
