When Charlie Palmer converted Alva into Kitchen 22, he created the perfect neighborhood restaurant for these not-exactly-flush times. This spinoff brings the $25 prix fixe formula (and equally affordable wines) uptown, where the locals happily line up without reservations for seasonal American fare like beef carpaccio, and roasted chicken with haricot verts.

The Emperor's New Clothes

Talk about limited menu! Five appetizers and five entrees. Choosing was by process of elimination, not what was appealing. The corn soup was good but the skate was salty. The real joke: only one dessert consisting of a small peach slice, something covered in raspberry sauce, and a small, lousy brownie with whipped cream. For $8, that's what they came up with? Go elsewhere.

Loved this place when it first opened. The menu is quite limited and no longer seems to rotate. Different variations of salmon and skate lose their appeal after a while. Pastas and chickens are boring. Have tried to go back, but their menu just turns me off now. In a word: LIMITED
