Profile

From a fleet of ovens comes a dizzying array of golden-crusted pizzas and focaccia at this friendly Park Slope family restaurant. “Grandma’s,” “upside-down,” deep-dish, thin-crust, and stuffed are a few of the styles on offer, topped or filled with everything from pepperoni to oven-roasted potatoes. Choose imported bufala or the housemade mozzarella on your margherita pie, and try to make room for the wealth of Italian-American antipasti, pastas, salads, and main courses.

Food that tastes best on the lawn

La Villa catered my pre-wedding brunch, which was essentially a picnic in Prospect Park. They were good sports about driving their van into the Litchfield Villa cul-de-sac and waiting for me to notice that my cell phone had gone to voice mail; and the food, outdoors in the summer, tasted amazing. Broccoli rabe was splendid, with little bits of pancetta. All the antipasti were fresh and dripping with oil. The pizza went over really well too. In person, though, the restaurant seemed a little hokey in its decor and the food seemed a little bland and overpriced. It makes me think that maybe if they jazzed up the decorations and the ambiance, I could recapture the magic of eating their food in the great outdoors... or maybe not.
