The lowdown

Formerly headed by chef Gerardo Gonzalez (El Rey), this Cali-Latin restaurant is a lively homage to New York’s old-school lunch counters, with dishes as disparate as pork carnitas with fresh flour tortillas and a vegan Caesar dappled with nutritional yeast. Florida native Kia Damon, the sous-chef turned head chef, pulls from her experience with “Latin food as a queer black woman from the South.”
