Located on one of Chelsea’s calmer corners, Lamano offers Spanish small plates and a selection of wines and cocktails in a cozy, stylish space. The 32-seat dining room is well designed and comfortable, with smooth wooden tables, white tile, large chalkboards, and exposed brick. The menu is straightforward, flavorful, and made for groups; order half a dozen small plates for a survey in well-executed Basque and Spanish cuisine. An ideal spread would include the crispy Rioja-style potatoes with spicy chorizo, tender beer-poached octopus skewered with tiny fingerling potatoes, and slices of toast slathered with an eggplant spread with hints of clover honey and rosemary. Don’t sleep on the fun, well-thought-out cocktails, including a calimocho riff made with red wine, Coca-Cola, blackberry liqueur, and lemon, and a cava, orange, and PX sherry spritz.
